Marvin and Eleanor Blick Scholarship Endowment

Purpose

To promote a rewarding career for those desiring to pursue studying and finding a cure for those suffering from Alzheimer's/Dementia. These institutions may include technical colleges, community colleges, junior colleges and four-year colleges/universities.

Background

The Marvin and Eleanor Blick Scholarship Endowment was established in 2019 in memory of Marvin and Eleanor Blick, lifelong residents of the Hopewell and Prince George communities. Throughout their lives, they demonstrated a deep caring and compassionate attitude toward family, friends and those living in their community. After retiring Marvin spent several years caring and assisting a sister who was partially handicapped, and he visited and assisted several people in Southside Virginia under hospice care. After retirement, Eleanor and her sister devoted several years to the care of their elderly parents, especially their mother, who was a victim of Alzheimer's and resided at the John Randolph Nursing Home until her death. During part of this time Eleanor and her sister also provided needed care and assistance to an elderly aunt who also suffered from Alzheimer's. After Eleanor's death, Marvin lived by himself until he began to suffer from memory loss and entered nursing care facilities to receive assistance in caring for his personal needs. Through the creation of this scholarship program, Mr. and Mrs. Blicks' legacy of compassion and deep caring toward family and friends living in their community will continue by assisting local youth who are seeking their educational dreams.
