Coach Robert E. (Bob) Budlove Golf Scholarship Endowment

Purpose

To promote continuing education for any course of study by awarding scholarships to a deserving Petersburg High School senior who is also a member of the golf team. Consideration may be given to other schools in the Foundation’s service area. Candidate(s) must be a member of the golf team. Applicants must demonstrate academic achievement, extra-curricular involvement, financial need, good citizenship and plan on attending institutions which may include technical colleges, community colleges, and four-year colleges/universities

Background

Coach Robert E. (Bob) Budlove Golf Scholarship Endowment was established by family, friends and former students to honor and recognize the legacy of Robert. E. (Bob) Budlove, a beloved coach and friend who served as the Petersburg High School Golf Coach from 1956-1985.

Coach “Bob” Budlove started his teaching and coaching career at Petersburg High School in 1956 and was involved with the baseball, basketball, football and golf programs. He also instituted the driver’s education program and was instrumental in the construction of the first driving range in the area for students to learn realistic driving scenarios. He is a dedicated member of the community and his church. Bob was involved in the creation and served as the tournament chairman of the Lee Park Invitational Golf Tournament. Coach Budlove was the Petersburg Crimson Wave golf coach for approximately 30 years. He was dedicated to promoting the game and was able to lead the golf team to two Central District Championships. Bob’s love of the game and his passion for coaching offered him a rewarding career while instilling fundamental characteristics of fairness and hard work. He provided encouragement to his students and was instrumental in shaping many to become successful leaders.

Policy

The primary purpose of the Fund shall be to provide scholarships to Petersburg High School student(s) who is a member of the golf team. Consideration may be given to other schools in the Foundation’s service area. Candidate(s) must be a member of the golf team. Student interns working for John Randolph Foundation are eligible to apply; however, Foundation trustees, other Foundation employees and their immediate families (parents, spouses, brothers, sisters, and anyone claimed as a dependent for tax purposes) are not eligible to apply. Scholarship Applicants Must

  1. Express an interest in attending technical colleges, community colleges, and four-year colleges/universities as a full-time or part-time undergraduate student (at least 6 hours per semester);
  2. Priority given to a Petersburg High School Student who is a member of the golf team;
  3. Consideration may be given to other schools in the Foundation’s service area. Candidate(s) must be a member of the golf team;
  4. Submit a completed “John Randolph Foundation Scholarship Application” ONLINE which includes the ability to UPLOAD the required “attachments” requested on the application;
  5. Must have a G.P.A of 2.5 or better.

Procedure

The scholarship amount is $1,000 and will be paid directly to the school for current year tuition, fees, books purchased through the institution attended, and on-campus dormitory and meal plan expenses. The scholarship committee will review and evaluate all applications and announce awards each spring. The committee will also review and revise the scholarship policy and criteria as necessary.

All required documents must be uploaded with the application. Any mailed or hand-delivered documents will not be accepted.

Failure to submit the online application with all documents attached to the application by the deadline will disqualify an applicant from consideration for the Coach Robert E. (Bob) Budlove Golf Scholarship Endowment. The John Randolph Foundation Scholarship Committee reserves the right to interview applicants in the final stages of selection.

The decision of the scholarship committee in all matters regarding scholarships is final. Canvassing a scholarship benefactor, any John Randolph Foundation trustee or employee shall result in immediate disqualification. Scholarship awards are subject to the availability of funds, meeting the criteria as outlined in the guidelines of the individual scholarship program and contingent upon acceptance and enrollment in an approved program.
